Approximately 50 artists participated in the museum’s first art contest “Promenade the Alcazar”. The museum will be celebrating its 70th anniversary and the 130th anniversary of the Alcazar Hotel.

“It is exciting to see the diversity of the artwork that was submitted. We saw a wide range of media like glass, photography, painting, digital art and mixed media. We also saw a range in ages and artistic levels from 15 year-old contestants to seasoned professional artists.” – Jennifer Jordan, Communications Coordinator

The museum will be holding its “Lightner After Hours” event on Thursday, July 26, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July’s event will showcase the “Promenade the Alcazar” exhibition. During the evening, the winner of the contest will be announced and presented with a $1,000 check. Guests will also have an opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork.

A “People’s Choice Award” will be given to the artwork which receives the most votes. Visitors may vote throughout the week the artwork is on display on the mezzanine level. The “People’s Choice Award” winner will receive two tickets ($140 value) to the museum’s anniversary event, “Promenade the Alcazar”, on October 19, 2018.
