Degas Exhibition Tours

From April 12 – June 16, 2019, tour the exhibition, Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist – Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle, a collection featuring over 50 original works by renowned artist Edgar Degas. This exhibition offers unique insights into Degas’ inner world and the opportunity to see rarely exhibited works from the private collection of Curator Emeritus at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Robert Flynn Johnson.

GUIDED ART TOUR

Featuring Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist – Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle

A docent will share insights on the paintings in Lightner’s permanent collection as your group is guided through the museum and into the exhibition, Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist. This private collection of works by the renowned artist and his circle features drawings and prints, plus photographs, monotypes, correspondence, and sculpture.

This tour is available April 12 – June 16, 2019. Tours are limited to 12 people per group (larger groups will be separated). Tour participants are welcome to revisit galleries on their own after the guided portion of their tour. Please allow a minimum of 1½ hours in the museum. Cost is $25.00 per person.

Upstairs/Downstairs at the Alcazar

This acclaimed tour offers a behind the scenes view of what life was like for the aristocrats who stayed at the Hotel Alcazar and the staff who served them during the Gilded Age. Immerse yourself in the history of the museum’s building, the former Hotel Alcazar, as the tour winds its way through spaces not typically seen by the general public. General admission to the Museum is included.

Groups will also receive a docent-led overview of Lightner’s spring exhibit, Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist – Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle (April 12 – June 16, 2019).

Self-Guided Tour with Docent Introduction

A docent will give groups an overview of the history of the museum and its historic building, the former Hotel Alcazar. Docents will also provide an explanation of the layout of the museum’s permanent collections.  Participants will then tour the museum at their own pace, based on their individual interests.  From April 12 – June 16, 2019, admission to the special exhibit, Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist – Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle, is included at no additional charge.
