Crystal Floyd: Kindred Spirits
The Reception for Kindred Spirits will take place on Wednesday, October 30 from 6:00-8:00pm.
“The assemblages I create are an extension of my life, inspired by the objects I gather during my explorations of diverse ecosystems and offbeat places. These collections go beyond mere accumulation; they are a means of connecting with the world and with others who share a similar curiosity. People collect to hold onto moments, ideas, and connections that resonate with them, and through these shared experiences, we find common ground and build community.”
—Crystal Floyd
Crystal Floyd’s artistic practice examines the intersections of art, science, and nature. Celebrating the deep relationships between living beings and the natural world, her work emphasizes themes of conservation and environmentalism. Translating emotions and complex ideas, Floyd uses her collections to craft narratives that invite reflection on our relationship with the environment.
Kindred Spirits presents Floyd’s collections reimagined through a creative process that combines hand-prepared biological specimens, found objects, recycled materials, and preserved plant life. By integrating assemblage and collage with experimental materials, she aims to create unique works of art that capture the essence of nature’s cyclical processes.
The exhibition explores the act of collecting as a universal trait shared by both humans and animals, rooted in creativity and survival. Floyd advocates for mindful consumption and responsible environmental interaction, emphasizing their importance in tackling ecological challenges. Through her art, Floyd seeks to bridge the personal with the universal, inspiring innovative thinking and creation while fostering growth and fulfillment through shared experiences and collective action.
